Thank You's
The idea for this station was born in January, 2006 but it took over a year to bring it all together. We want to offer a huge thank you to the following people for their advice, efforts and encouragement (and patience!).

The Music Business

Michael Godin. Michael looks too young for the career under his belt! Starting as a teenaged DJ in Montreal in the late sixties (where, as a high schooler, he interviewed John Lennon during his "Bed-in for peace"), Michael worked as DJ and Music Director at numerous Montreal radio stations. He subsequently went to work at A&M Records Canada, rising to the position of Vice President Artists & Repertoire, where he was responsible for signing Bryan Adams. A true pioneer in the internet radio community, Michael started Treasure Island Oldies in 1997. Today, he continues to create a weekly show and runs Michael Godin Management Inc., an artist management and consulting company. Michael has been a great source of advice (and also a source of some great music biz anecdotes!).

Craig Horton. Craig is Director of Publishing and Licensing Administration for Vancouver-based Nettwerk Music Group, one of the world's largest independent record labels as well as a fast growing music publishing and management company. Craig also sits on the board of SOCAN, Canada's primary performing rights organization. Craig helped, on numerous occasions, to point me in the right direction, help me see things from a different perspective and was a great source of encouragement.

Dee Lippingwell. (www.deelippingwell.com) Dee has been an award winning photographer for over 30 years now. She has a truly amazing collection of photos from Mick Jagger to Mick Buble (or is that Michael?). While doing a late night internet search to find some photos for our website, I discovered that she lives just two blocks away from me. Talk about petit monde! Dee has very graciously allowed us to incorporate some of her work in our website.

The Technology Sector

Winston Bromley. (www.artbox.ca) Winston gets the prize for receiving the most phone calls and emails from me. (We're not quite sure what the prize will be - perhaps a call screening device for his phone). Having, personally, never built a website from scratch but wanting the ability to edit content quickly and easily, Winston was a huge help in showing me how to set up and use a CMS (Content Management System). He was also instrumental in helping us interface with our audio streaming provider.

Hugh Dobie. (www.insinc.com) Insinc is a very sizable IP solutions provider. They provide netcasting services for clients such as CTV, Canada's premier television network, and numerous corporate clients. They are also the parent company of Media on Tap (www.mediaontap.com). Hugh, president of Insinc, very kindly gave us a place to experiment to figure out 'this radio thang'. Many thanks also to Rob Regnier, his chief technical 'go to' guy.

The Business Sector
Robin J. Elliott. Robin specializes in teaching small to mid-sized businesses what the 'big boys' already know: Your chances of success increase dramatically when you leverage your time and resources through the use of Joint Ventures or Strategic Alliances. An exceptionally well connected person and a very "out of the box' thinker, Robin has a knack for coming up with innovative ways to minimize risk and maximize return. Robin also was responsible for introducing me to Winston Bromley who has been a huge help on the technical side.

Elco Gauw. Elco probably gets the runner-up prize for most calls/emails received from me. Elco is a very tech-savvy person with a great mind for business (and a ton of connections - Elco introduced me to Insinc's Hugh.). If he doesn't know the answer to a question (which is not often), he probably knows who does.

Doug Morneau. (www.rhino.ca) Doug is yet another well-connected, innovative thinker I've been blessed to know. His e-marketing services company, Rhino Marketing, is on whatever the edge in front of the bleeding edge is called. However, Doug pays precious little attention to what's trendy or what sounds like a good idea. He is only interested in what works. As such, he is forever testing ideas and strategies to prove the best route to take. A line on his website says it all: "Half the money I spend on advertising is wasted. The trouble is, I don't know which half." - we know which half.
Doug has been a great sounding board for me as well as a great idea generator..

Kirsten Severson. (www.klstrademarks.ca) Kirsten is the most recent "friend of pn8". If you think picking a name and protecting it is simple, WRONG! Kirsten did a great job of guiding me through the 'ins and outs' of name selection and protection. Many thanks!

Government Services.

As a 'private sector guy', I was very appreciative of the assistance I was given over the past year (2006) by some noteworthy people in the public sector. The digital world has turned the music business upside down (and is continuing to do so). The most mind-numbing part of this past year has been trying to figure out what my obligations are in terms of paying royalties (for playing music on the internet) and to whom those royalties go. For their guidance and assistance, I want to thank:
At Canadian Heritage/Patrimoine Canadien: (http://www.pch.gc.ca/) Danielle Bouvet, Denis Gratton, Claude Lafontaine
At Copyright Board Canada/Commission du droit d'auteur Canada: (http://www.cb-cda.gc.ca/new-e.html) Claude Majeau

The "Pre-Fans"

A small group of people put up with countless questions ranging from suggested music for our playlist to slogans on our t-shirts. Many, many thanks to (in alphabetical order, of course):

Corrinne Brady
Justin Fransila
Peter Hnyk
Paul Isaac
Chris Paul

Last but not least

Anyone working online, especially anyone involved in any way with the music business, needs to read "The Long Tail" by Chris Anderson, editor of Wired. Great book. Recommended to me by three of the people on this list within three days of each other.
